Based on student and faculty feedback we have updated our services for printing and library services at the Ron Joyce Centre.

Printing

There is now a dedicated printer station at the Concierge Desk at the RJC. Students will simply log into the print station, insert a USB drive containing their documents, print the documents using their Equitrac account, remove their USB drive, and then log out of the print station. It is important that you log out or else it is possible for others to use your printing account.

Please note that you must have sufficient funds on your Equitrac account to print. To add cash value to your Equitrac account, MBA students can email printsmart@mcmaster.ca with their name and student ID indicating the desired amount of money you wish to add.

Further information on printing, including the cost per page and detailed instructions, are available on the Computer Services and Printing page. For any issues or feedback on printing, please contact dsbhelp@mcmaster.ca.

Library and research services

Jeannie An, RJC Research Services Librarian, is available to meet with students, faculty and staff on a daily basis at the Ron Joyce Centre. Jeannie’s office hours for the winter term are listed below:

Monday 11am – 7pm

Tuesday 1pm – 5pm

Wednesday 11am – 7pm

Thursday 1pm – 5pm

Friday by appointment only

For a complete list of services available check out the Library Services page and Research Services page on the Ron Joyce Centre web site. To request a consultation or for further information, please contact Jeannie An at anjean@mcmaster.ca, ext. 20561 or RJC-253.

A full list of services offered at the Ron Joyce Centre is available on the RJC Services page. If you have feedback or suggestions on services at the Ron Joyce Centre, please share them through rjc@mcmaster.ca.

Student feedback underscored several areas of potential improvement to the printing services available to students at the Ron Joyce Centre. The two primary areas of concern were that students could not easily add cash value to their printsmart Equitrac accounts from the Ron Joyce Centre, and that printing itself was sometimes slow and prone to frequent failures.

The first issue of adding cash value to printsmart accounts highlighted the need for improved communications to students and RJC staff. Any RJC student can add cash value to printsmart accounts by emailing printsmart@mcmaster.ca with their name and student ID, indicating their wish to add cash value to their printsmart account. Alternatively, RJC students can add cash value using the online request form.

Cash value can be added to printsmart accounts in $20 increments. However, this is only an interim solution and true online debit and credit integration is expected to be rolled out in January 2012.

An investigation of the second issue, that is, of printing being slow and prone to failure, concluded that dedicated print stations located throughout the Ron Joyce Centre would solve the problem. Students will soon be able to simply log into a print station, insert a USB drive containing their documents, print the documents using their printsmart account, remove the USB drive, and log out of the system.

The first dedicated print station is scheduled to be installed in January, with further print stations and a redistribution of printing resources following shortly thereafter.
